Non-Toxic and Green Living

Non Toxic Living

In 2007 I began the change to remove the Toxins from my home, below are the steps I followed in removing the toxins from my home. One thing I noticed is the more I changed to non toxic the more products the more I made smarter decisions for everything I made.

First I removed all the cleaning products and replaced them with green cleaning products and homemade solutions

Second I changed all our laundry detergents and fabric softeners to a safer alternative, I tired just about everything from a Borax, baking soda mix to soap nuts. These products didn't clean as well as what I was used to and having two small children I had tons of stains that needed to be removed. I finally tried Shaklee's Laundry detergent and fabric softener and this is what I am sticking with. It cleans as well as Tide and they even have a safe alternative to OxyClean®. .

Third I began changing all our personal care products such as toothpaste (I use Shaklee Dentifrice), hair care products, skin care, makeup, baby wash and baby wipes (Wegamans sells and natural recyclable baby wipe also Walmart also has one called Parents Choice that is 30% organic cotton).

Dirty Facts on Clean

  • 15 minutes of scrubbing a shower put a person over the acute exposure limit of harmful toxins
  • Each Year 3,00 kids will be hospitalized due to accidental poisoning from house hold cleaners

Homemade Recipes

Below is some homemade recipes to clean just about everything, please keep in mind nothing is using preservatives so you can not store these mixes unrefrigerated, even if refrigerated I would only keep them for a few days. Keep in mind even though these are Chemical Free mixtures they should still be kept out of reach of children.
